The Lincoln Photography Club is open to anyone who is interested in photography - hobbyist, amateur, or professional. All skill levels are welcome. The club meets on the third Tuesday of the month, 7:00 pm, at the Lincoln Cultural Center located at 403 East Main Street,Lincolnton, NC
MESSAGE ABOUT PHOTO WALK
Hey everyone. I'm excited about our photowalk, however, I am concerned about the heat. Bring lots of water!! Also, I will have a map with the locations of the buildings that will be open and the times they will be open. If anyone feels they need to drive instead of walk to those locations because of the heat, that will be fine with me. I just want everyone to have a good time despite the heat. I also want everyone to be safe. Hopefully we will be able to get into the cultural center in case anyone needs to use the restroom. I will confirm that later in the morning. We do have space reserved at Court Street Grille for meeting after the walk at 9:00pm. I hope everyone will take advantage of some time to relax in the A/C!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Judy
PHOTO WALK, JULY 24, 6:15 PM
I'm excited about the walk and I'm planning for rain or shine!! If it does rain, we should still be able to go inside the buildings for photos. If it's not raining hard, we can still get good photos outside. If necessary (because of rain) we will adjust the walk. It does look like it will still be hot, so you'll want to bring some water with you. Also think about everything else you plan to bring because you will have to carry it the whole time.
If you want to come and have not yet signed up, please sign up at:
http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/lincolnton-nc-united-states-downtown/
Everyone is welcome! If you need or want to bring your kids, that's fine, too. Maybe they'd like to model for us! Just be sure you know where your kids are at all times - the rest of the group will not be responsible for them.
If you have any questions, be sure to ask!
See you soon,
Judy

SCAVENGER HUNT: not discussed
PROGRAM:
David Hopkins gave a talk about shooting water He talked about composition, aperture, shutter speed ISO and shutter speed.
Here are more of David’s suggestions”
· Wear old clothes, old shoes, sandals. Use an umbrella or something to keep the lens from getting wet. Have something to clean or dry your lens as waterfalls have lots of droplets around them.
Don’t just set up your tripod and start shooting but walk around look for unique angles. Squat and climb up on rocks and get wet. Just be careful as mists are a problem getting your lens wet and it will be slick especially in winter.
· Avoid straight on shots. Shoot from an angle, many different angles. Look for interesting shots.
· Some NC/SC waterfalls David likes are Hanging Rock- lower cascades, DuPont state park
· Aperture settings
· ISO – Lowest on your camera 100
· Shutter Speed ¼ sec and work your way up to 30 seconds
· Longer the shutter is open the more light comes in.
· Try some filters Neutral Density and Polarizer
· Use Bracket mode to get multiple exposures without having to change any settings
· Set the increments
· Use Timers or remotes
PRESIDENT'S NOTE ON MARCH 22 MEETING
You won't want to miss our next meeting - Monday, March 22, 7:00pm at the Library in Lincolnton.
Kenny Brackett will be presenting "What's in your bag?" He will be sharing some of his gadgets as well as favorite lenses and filters.
Don't forget to post your scavenger hunt photos on Flickr and request to be included in the Lincoln Photography Club group. Just mention that you are a member of the club when you request to join.
Also, we've had to make some changes on the dates of our field trips. The trip to East Lincoln historical sites has had to be changed from Saturday, March 27th to Sunday, March 28th. We will meet at 1:30 in the afternoon. More information will be given at the club meeting. We didn't actually have a field trip planned for April, but some of you may be interested in going out to the Lowery's Alpaca farm. Kathy is open to having visitors on either the 10th or 17th. She cannot accommodate a lot of people at one time, so we can talk about it at the meeting and/or call her to schedule. That information will be given at the club meeting as well. If you want to look up information about Alpaca farms, go to alpacanation.com. The Lowery's have a link to their page, their farm is called Morning Glory farm and is in West Lincoln. Also, the May 1st field trip to South Mountain is being changed. We will discuss a different date at the meeting.
Be sure to mention the club to your friends who are also interested in photography. We have over 20 members, now, which I think is great for our first year as an organized club. I've heard many people say they've heard about us through word of mouth, so talk it up!!
One last thing - this Friday - the 19th is the Art Crawl in downtown Lincolnton. Some of our members will have their work displayed and for sale. I believe the time is from 5:00-9:00pm. Come on out and enjoy the evening, and remember that "Art Crawl" was one if the items on our scavenger hunt for this month.
Any questions, comments or concerns just let me know. You can respond to this email or call me at 980-241-0188

NOVEMBER MEETING REMINDER FROM JUDY
x
Don't forget that Monday (23rd) is our monthly meeting. This month is our contest. If you have paid your dues, there is no cost to enter. However, if you have not paid, it will cost $5.00. We are limiting the contest to just one photo per person and requesting that the photo be 8 X 10 matted (matted because the library IS letting us display our contest photos on the wall in the hallway again). We all will be judging during the meeting. I will have ballot type sheets made up for judging based on a rating scale in 5 categories: Focus; Lighting; Composition; Color/Quality; and Aesthetics. I will go over these categories prior to judging to explain in more detail. There is no particular theme for the contest.
x
I will also have sign-up sheets for food, etc. for our December meeting. As many of you know, we will be meeting on December 14th at the Cultural Center in Lincolnton for a social time and announcement of the photo contest winners. We will all contribute by bringing pick-up type foods. Please plan to participate since this will be our only meeting in December.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email or phone (980) 241-0188.
